The Moving On Up Project is a residential and community outreach scheme that offers support to young adults making the transition from children’s services to living independently. The service is fully committed to enabling access to all individuals who seek to benefit from our service. The service users have a range of conditions such as ADHD, ASD, Mental health conditions and learning disabilities and substance misuse. The scheme supports clients to self-manage their conditions and the daily challenges they face with recovery and independence being the primary focus.
Our young residents took part in a boxing project run by Elliot McKinnell, this was funded by the Local authority that ran for 6 weekly sessions, this was an activity that all our young residents engaged in fully and really enjoyed. The boxing project offers wellbeing classes alongside boxing lessons. The sessions covered the benefits of physical activity and discipline and principals involved in boxing combined with classes on relaxation, calming techniques, mindfulness, future goal planning. Elliot adapted the wellbeing sessions to meet the needs of the individuals that reflected current issues they were facing. All our residents reported to feeling more positive about the future and having more confident and improved self-esteem.
